After installing WordPress

After you install WordPress there are some tasks you need to do first before anything else. The WordPress Settings need to be changed. I know it’s tempting to write a post or play with the CSS Template BUT a bit of tweaking is needed before you dive in.

I always go to the WordPress Settings and change various bits & pieces first.

WordPress General Settings
Settings > General > The main items I change are the WordPress address (URL) and Site address (URL). By default the www is not included, so I add www to both. Don’t be concerned if you are logged out. Simply log in again and your General URL Settings will be changed.

I also change the Timezone (for me it’s +10) – set your local time relative to current UTC (Controlled Universal Time). If you want people to be able to register at your site tick “anyone can register” next to “Membership”.

That’s pretty much it for General Settings. I’ll go into the other WordPress Settings in my next post.

Do you setup your WordPress installation differently? Let me know.
